Memories & Candles
I am sorry to hear of Mr. Smythe's passing. He was my sixth grade teacher and my favorite one out of all my school teachers. He remembered me long after I had left school and I will never forget him.

I had Mr. Smythe in the 6th grade at Marion Elementary. He was then and remains today one of my favorite teachers - including my college professors. He taught us everything we needed to know from our textbooks and he made learning fun. He also never talked down to us, which was a big deal when you're 12-13 years old.
As it's now the holiday season, my thoughts are with Mr. Smythe's family. I hope it gives them some measure

Liz, I am so sorry to hear about Mike's passing. He was my big brother in college, and I was devastated to learn that he had passed on. I always loved Mike, and I really regret that we lost contact over the years. I have sent you a letter.

I just heard about Mike's passing and I wanted to offer my condolences. We attended RC together and were fraternity brothers. He was a great Brother and an important friend at Roanoke.

Mike and I were each others first roommate at Roanoke College. We immediately became best of friends, and I would have to say he was a big reason that I joined Pi Kappa Phi. As Sweetheart of the fraternity, Betty got to know all of the Pi Kaps well. I know she agrees with me that he was one of the best of us. I regret that the only time we saw Mike again was at a 20 year reunion.

The news of Mike's passing has just caught up with me, and I am greatly saddened. Our prayers are with Liz and the family and we know their wonderful memories of him, along with the beautiful tributes will help sustain them as they mourn the loss of one fine individual. Mike and I are Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity brothers from Roanoke College, and he was always the one brother with a level head, who would assess every situation and everyone

Mike was a true gentleman. I saw Mike when we came to Marion, either at the golf course or the Wellness Center. I enjoyed watching him play basketball and he was always a class leader. Pete and I send our deepest sympathy.
