Michael Mariano

Mr. Michael Mariano, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, November 15, 2012 in the care of staff and family at St. Camillus Nursing Facility in Whitinsville. He was 84.

Michael was born in Shrewsbury on May 12, 1928 a son of the late John and Caroline (Beatrice) Mariano. A life long Shrewsbury resident he attended Shrewsbury Schools and enlisted with the United States Marines September 26, 1945 in Boston and honorably served his country until his discharge at Quantico on September 26, 1949. He was a proud Marine. Semper Fi.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years, primarily for Union Local # 4 before retiring.

Mike was a member of Marine Corps League Worcester Detachment #144 and enjoyed woodworking, sports and the outdoors.

He is predeceased by his siblings, John Mariano and Anne Schnorf.

Mike leaves his wife, Phyllis C. (Milde) Mariano; his daughter, Frances Mariano Grann and her husband, Eric, of Douglas; his grandchildren, Kristopher, Allison and Garrett; his sisters, Carmella Callotta of Framingham, Rose Russell and Diane Burns, both of Shrewsbury; nieces and nephews.

Mike's family will gather privately to honor and remember him in Heald & Chiampa Funeral DIrectors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center. Burial will follow with military honors in Mountain View Cemetery.
