Growing up in Philippines as a young boy, I had a lot of fond memories of my cousin Vic.
I remember spending christmas holidays and summer vacations with him and his family.
Vic was an active boy, we all were when we were kids..He loves sports. We played basketball, syatong, jolens, sipa, teks, trumpo, taguan, fly saranggola and other traditional larong pinoy.
We would play outside and in the streets all day. We would go out and play in the rain and shower under roof gutters.
We would race little banka made out of paper and popsicle sticks. I remember Vic and Sonny buying baby ducklings called 'itik' and racing them.
Indoors, we played a lot of bingo, monopoly, sungka, cards and even fly paper planes inside the house.
Vic was a strong boy and he loves to wrestle...you
would not want to wrestle with him, he'll surely kick your ass. He likes to run and race and his disability was never an issue with him. He will always rise to the challenge.
Fiesta days in Tarlac, we would go to the town fair and spend every penny we had shooting small plastic ducks in shelves for a price.
I will never forget the time when Vic misfired his toy pellet gun and accidentally hit the lady attendant in the face. As young boys, we were stunned and at that moment, we looked at each other and nervously saying to ourselves: "we better get the hell out of here"...after putting down our pellet guns and saying he's sorry and his lame excuse, we slowly walked away. We glanced back hoping everything was ok and saw the attendant still feeling the pain. She was okay, no blood, no wound...we felt a sense of relief. We would later share a good laugh or two about the whole thing. I had such fun growing up with him and his siblings.
Vic as a young boy, was a very good orator. I remember his Dad, Bapa Ti, always asking him to recite a poem he learned in grade school: 'The charge of the light brigade' by Alfred Tennyson.
He has a very good memory and he would recite the whole thing with pride and passion and with a strong emphasis in his diction and pronunciation.
I can still hear his strong voice declaiming:
'half a league, half a league, half a league onward
into the valley of death, rode the six hundred'...
He would make everybody proud especially his Tat(Dad).
I am proud of you cousin, and for having shared such memorable moments with us during our formative years.

I will miss you Vic...you will forever live in my heart and memory.

Sleep tight my dear brother, all in the company of our Lord...till we meet again.
