Memories & Candles
Jerry will be missed greatly by me. He was a wonderful cousin and friend. We enjoyed sharing family genealogy and history between each other. Jerry was a walking encyclopedia and helped me immensely with my research on our common family genealogy.
Jerry , I look forward to seeing you on the other side.

Gerry was special. We spoke many times and I cannot say we always agreed but he was a good spirit that found his place in the world.

I met Gerald when I was in college at UNI. We talked in the student union often, and then he and I lived close by in an apartment house. He was a kind, respectful, and interesting man - I have never forgotten him. I saw him a few years ago. I'm glad I had that opportunity. Blessings to all of you who are left behind - I'm sure he'll be missed.

Cedar Falls has lost one of its signature people---Gerry's involvement with many causes serves as a great example of citizenship for us all. His encyclopedic output on any subject under the sun was a source of constant amazement, and his appearance at Stebs or Pour Dick's on the hill was always an invitationP9KNp to an entertaining conversation. He was one of the reasons there were "good old days."

I did not know Gerald, but I new about him because of his many letters to our local newspaper. I have been aware of him since I moved to Cedar Falls. I associate him with Cedar Falls. I often saw him in Hy-Vee, almost always in his overalls. I was shocked to read of his death and am sorry that he will no longer be walking the streets of Cedar Falls.

Jerry was an iconic figure in Cedar Falls and The Hill area for many, many years and just an all-around nice person. Have a good rest.

Whenever possible I read the letters to the editor you wrote in the Courier and in the Northern Iowan. Your perspective in life was one-of-a- kind and I will miss reading your interesting and exceptional points of view. I also enjoyed talking with you when we ran into each other in various places.. Jerry not only had a genius level IQ, he was one of the sweetest, most compassionate people I've ever know. Requiescat in pace.

Jerry thanks for the friendship! Your thoughts and knowledge always meant a lot to me. See you some day on the other side. If you see Dag Hammarskjold, greet him for me. You were always so kind to be on the look out for his book for me. Why not talk to him for real. Anything is possible! Love Janey Benson
