We were on our way home from Wichita Kansas and called back to my dad, Vernon (VK) letting them know we were close to Atlanta, almost home. He let me know his brother had passed from this life to the arms of the Lord. I so appreciate the many wonderful memories of Herschel, Betty, and all the tribe as my family would visit the farm in Imboden and later in Walnut Ridge.

Robert grew up with the Smith boys. Even tho their paths took different directions they remained life long friends, Hershel was a good man and he will be missed by many people.

I'll never forget the day I got a phone call from Herschel asking if I knew where he could find a good French teacher and a good science teacher. He was principal at Piggott High School, and he knew my husband and I were looking for teaching positions. We went for an interview with the superintendent.
