We were on our way home from Wichita Kansas and called back to my dad, Vernon (VK) letting them know we were close to Atlanta, almost home. He let me know his brother had passed from this life to the arms of the Lord. I so appreciate the many wonderful memories of Herschel, Betty, and all the tribe as my family would visit the farm in Imboden and later in Walnut Ridge.

I so want to be there to celebrate his homegoing with you Smithins but I was away for a few weeks with family in Kansas.
Know that I and my family have you all in our prayers and thoughts every day. Especially Thursday and Friday.
I hope we can cross paths soon and tell tales the way they should be told.

Robert grew up with the Smith boys. Even tho their paths took different directions they remained life long friends, Hershel was a good man and he will be missed by many people.

He said since Herschel recommended us, it was good enough for him. Thus began a new chapter in my relationship with Herschel Smith. He'd been my teacher at Sloan-Hendrix. He became my colleague at Piggott. As a teacher he was dedicated to his students, mixing humor with classwork. As an administrator he was dedicated to his faculty and students, providing necessary leadership that led to an effective school community. I am proud to call him my friend.

So sorry that you have lost your father and grandfather. Know that you will miss his so much. He has always been such a friendly person since we have known him. May God give you peace during this time. We extend our deepest sympathy at this time.
