Davis, John Henry Dickinson
Age 87

Died Friday, January 25, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born September 3, 1925 in Mt. Victory, Ohio to the late Frank K. and Mary D. Davis (Omaha). He was raised in Omaha and graduated from Central High School in June, 1943 and chose to serve his country in the Naval Reserve, still two months short of being 18. This naval service was in the V-12 program, a highly competitive college training program for naval officers. He completed the program and received his commission as an Ensign at Cornell University, as well as Harvard University for Naval Communications School and then onto the South Pacific as Lieutenant (JG); assigned to a bird class minesweeper, USS Pochard AM-375 during WWII. John was released from active duty in 1946 and enrolled at UNL where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. John retired from Northern Natural Gas Company after 34 years of service where he oversaw the design and construction of over 16,500 miles of pipeline. He summarized his career by stating the, "[He] faced the challenges that came from building new facilities from the rock-bound hills of South Texas to the Big Sky country of Montana." After retirement, he moved to Green Valley, AZ where and his wife of 61 years, Constance, enjoyed time with friends and family as well as serving as President of the local Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife, Constance (Omaha), daughters Dr. Libby Davis (Omaha) and Dr. Catherine Davis, son-in-law Steven Scheffel and granddaugter, Liz Scheffel (all of Cincinnati). Private family graveside service will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, cards and notes can be sent to Westlawn Hillcrest funeral Home
