Irene Catherine Cordalis died in her Phoenix home on Thursday, June 8, after a brief illness, with her family by her side. Irene was born on October 24, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A positive outlook on life defined her. During World War II she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Cordalis, and they had five children. In 1960, they moved to Scottsdale, later settling in Paradise Valley. Ken conceived, built and operated the Mining Camp Restaurant and Trading Post at the base of the Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction, Arizona. A family enterprise, all their children worked at the restaurant in the 1960's and 70's. Throughout Irene's life, her family took center stage. She was fortunate that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren lived nearby and celebrated holidays and birthdays with her. Another passion for Irene was travel. She enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico and numerous cruises. She traveled to Minnesota many summers to visit her parents, sisters and their families. She continued to travel into her 90's and most recently vacationed in San Francisco. Irene was predeceased by husband Kenneth and son Tom (Denita). Irene is survived by her sister Shirley Overline, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, children Jim (Mimi), Mike, Sue Bush (Tim), and Debra Stone. She had 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever.
