Robert Knox Neuman (Bob) of Arizona, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed peacefully at home on June 13, 2017 Bob was born in Stroudsburg, PA on November 16, 1919,·and during his childhood lived with his family in Audubon, NJ and Yardley, PA. He attended Upper Darby High School in Upper Darby, PA, and Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
At Drexel Bob acted in plays, managed the football team, and edited the 1943 yearbook. He was in the ROTC program and after graduating from Drexel, Bob became a second lieutenant in the Army Chemical Corps. He was wounded in WWII action in Germany and awarded a Purple Heart. Bob then earned a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering, and worked as a production engineer at Merck Pharmaceuticals before embarking on a 35 year career with the American Chemical Society as a science writer and public relations innovator, creating the Office of Local Sections at ACS headquarters. After retirement Bob served in various volunteer positions in the community and in the Lutheran Church.
Bob was the son of Paul and Edna Neuman. He is survived by his wife Christiane, sister Janet, daughter Nancy, sons Nicholas and Glenn, and grandsons Ethan and Bradford.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to a charity supporting veterans or providing services for the blind.
