Charles Hilbert Reppel Sr., a Veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the age of 80. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his life. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Sylvia Merwin Reppel. Loving father of Nancy Ann Reppel Guerrero (Anthony), Shannan Susan Reppel Mahler (Ladd), Beth Ann Reppel Martin (Thomas), Charles Hilbert Reppel Jr. (Laurie), Michael John Reppel, Kelly Joseph Reppel (Diane), Patrick Terrance Reppel (Cindy) and Casey Frederick Reppel. Son of the late Frederick Andrew Reppel and Julia Luythe Reppel. Brother of Jane Reppel Peperone, Frederick Andrew Reppel Jr., Thomas David Reppel and the late Ann Reppel. Proud grandfather of Nicole & Charles Reppel, Taylor & Avery Reppel, Kaylee & Dacey Reppel, Gabriella Guerrero, Gracie Guerrero, Anthony Guerrero, Ladd Mahler Jr., Julia Mahler, Darrin Mahler, Katie Mahler, Elizabeth Mahler, Samantha Mahler, Jordan Mahler, Lance Martin, Jackson Martin, Molley Martin and Clay Martin.
Charles was a native of New Orleans and a longtime and well known resident of St. Bernard Parish where he was active in many personal and civic organizations. He was a longtime member of the Louisiana River Pilots Association, the Plimsoul Club, Past President and board member of the St. Bernard Port, Director of Parks & Recreation from 2001 – 2004, board member of the St. Bernard Hall of Fame, St. Aloysius Alumni, and a lifelong coach of many successful baseball and basket ball teams.
Charles will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, brother, grandfather, and a friend of many, who loved his country and treasured his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, November 20th from 10:00AM – 2:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 2:00PM.
Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
