David L. Walp, age 66, resident of rural Shelby died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at his home.
Born December 11, 1945 in Shelby to Harold "Bus" and Betty (Wilcox) Walp he had been a lifelong Shelby area resident. He was a 1964 graduate of Shelby High School. Dave was employed as a carpenter with Sutter Construction, was then employed with the Shelby Municipal Light Plant and retired from Omnisource in Mansfield. Following his retirement, he had worked with the Shelby Park Department.
He was a member of the Shenandoah Christian Church, American Legion Post#326, RCCH, Shiloh Grange and had served on the Bloomingrove Township Planning Commission. Dave enjoyed trap shooting, fishing and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Vikki (Bertke) Walp whom he married August 1981; his children, Larry (Kathy) Snyder, Jr. of Shelby and Trisha (Duane) Kinstle of Shiloh; his grandchildren, Casy and Kilie Fetzer, Ty Snyder, Lillian Zane and Will Kinstle, many other special friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Randy Walp.
Dave chose to have his body utilized with the Ohio State University Body Donor Program. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from the Shenandoah Christian Church with Pastor Tom McFadden officiating. Friends may call at the church Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to Shenandoah Christian Church, 5642 St. Rt. 13 N., Shiloh, OH 44878 or Hospice of NCO, 1050 Dauch Rd., Ashland, OH 44805. Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby is assisting the family with arrangements.
