David R. Shenk, 67, of Lancaster, PA at his residence, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, November 24, 2012. Born in Atlantic City NJ, he is the son of Grace H. Rock Shenk, Lititz and the late Paul D. Shenk. He was married to Jan Cutaiar Shenk. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are his children, Christopher (Amy Allison) Shenk, Pottsville, PA, Bryan Shenk, Lititz, Adrianne (Francesco) Caporusso, Lititz; stepchildren, James (Jenifer Cole) Stewart, Fredericksburg, VA, Robert (Wendy Fralich) Stewart, Landisville, Jacques Decaire. Ft. Walton Beach, FL; 8 grandchildren, Daniel, Rebecca, Caleb, Gia, Catherine (Belle), Alex, Julia, Sylvia; a brother, Dale P. (Pennelope) Shenk, Albuquerque, NM and a sister, Mary Grace (Ronald P.) Youtz, Palmyra.
David was a graduate of Ephrata High School and Alvernia College with a degree in business management. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War serving in the Air Force. He was a postal clerk with the US Postal Service, retiring in 2009 and a substitute teacher for I.U. 13. Dave was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, but his passion was fly-fishing. He designed and tied flies for fishing, demonstrating them in the U.S., Canada and Italy. His innovative flies won him a master's award in England. He was passionate about sharing and teaching the sport of fly tying and fishing.
Another Passion was art. Dave was a talented painter and helped many others in that field. He enjoyed gardening and was skilled at raising flowers. Dave was an excellent chef and everyone wanted his secret recipe for cakes he made. He was a member of Trout Unlimited, Canada, Trout Unlimited, Donegal Chapter, where he was a board member, the AMVETS, American Legion, and an associate member of the Canadian Royal Legion. Dave attended Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster.
Dave's Life Celebration Service will be held at Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster, 1899 Marietta Ave., Lancaster on Monday, Dec. 3rd at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, E. Hanover Twp., PA. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Please omit flowers. Memorials may be sent to Trout Unlimited Donegal Chapter, P.O. Box 8001, Lancaster, PA 17604.
