CHAMPLIN Dorothy Eloise Burchfield Champlin went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 28, 2012, with her family by her bedside. Eloise was born in Selma, Alabama to Goldie and Edward Lloyd. She grew up in Birmingham and was a resident of Mobile for the past 48 years. Eloise loved oil painting, ceramics, and especially ballroom dancing, belonging to the Azalea City Dance Club with her husband Ken for many years. She retired from Gulf Lumber Company where she worked as Executive Secretary for over 19 years. She also belonged to a Mardi Gras society and the Executive Secretaries Club of Mobile. Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Cleo Glover of Mobile, her husband of 43 years, Kenneth Edward Burchfield, and her husband of 15 years, Beverly "Champ" Champlin. She is survived by her only child, Kay Ellen (Jack) Glidewell, her grandchildren Keene Hammond, III, of Rochester, New York, her granddaughter Courtney (Riann) du Plessis of Fairhope, and her step- granddaughters Taryn Glidewell and Cristyn (Jeromy) Watkins of Kansas City, Missouri. Eloise's three great grandchildren are Cassidy Hammond, Austin Hammond and Sophia Hammond of Rochester, New York. The family would like to thank Odyssey Hospice, especially her aide, Trinette Zene, who administered to her almost daily with loving hands and words, her nurse Joan Allen, her social worker, Jackie Tarvin and her weekend caregiver Deborah Wallace. Jack and Kay cannot thank enough, Toya Pettaway, Eloise's weekly caregiver, whose love and devotion are immeasurable. Eloise's final days were filled with love and tenderness from these sweet ladies. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Mobile Memorial Gardens, Three Notch Road, Mobile with the Rev. Len Chilton officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Dayspring Baptist Church, 2200 South Cody Road, Mobile to their Children's Camp Scholarship Fund.
