Fern Doris (Nemec) (Simmons) Santos, age 75, passed away on August 20, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Plymouth. She was the devoted wife of the late Bernard Simmons and Antone Santos. Born in New Bedford, MA on October 28, 1935, she was the beloved daughter of the late Wenzel and Doris (Sturtevant) Nemec. Fern was raised in and attended school in New Bedford. She moved to Plymouth in 1942. She was a homemaker that had a deep devotion and passion for her friends and family alike. She touched many lives with her outstanding acts of kindness, which she did without question on a daily basis. Fern was the loving mother of David Simmons and his wife Lisa of Venice, FL, Adam Simmons and his wife Kelly of Plymouth, Bonnie Smith and her husband Tim of Wareham and Karen Clough of Plymouth. She was the cherished grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of eleven. Fern is also survived by her brother William Nemec and sister Carol Fortini both of Carver. The funeral will take place on Thursday morning at 9:15 from the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maryï¿½s Church in Plymouth at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Cartmell Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Jordan Hospital Cancer Center, 275 Sandwich St., Plymouth, MA 02360.
