Jack Edward Harrell, age 68, peacefully passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December13, 2012 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with Reverend James Tilton and Pastor Coleen Cotton officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman and had hiked the Appalachian Trail many times. He loved the outdoors and had his "trip of a lifetime" last year when he, Carolyn and Missy, their beloved Dachshund, took a 39 day, 5000 mile, RV trip from Clayton to Wyoming through 16 states. Jack was a Boy Scout Leader and taught vocational school in Tennessee for several years before moving to the Outer Banks of NC where he was the IT Specialist for Currituck County Schools. Jack retired from the NC General Assembly in Raleigh, NC in December of 2009 after working as an IT Infrastructure Specialist II for 12 years. Jack had a strong Christian faith and attended The Church at Clayton Crossings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Carolyn Long Harrell; four children, Dale Harrell, Donna Harrell Price (Tim), Angel Harrell Baker (John) and Montia Harrell McNeese (Daniel); seven grandchildren, Jordan Harrell, Daniel Harrell, Allayna Price, Tyler Baker, Marissa Baker, Abigail McNeese and Lucas McNeese; two great grandchildren, Hayden Harrell and Hunter Lance; three step-children, Joseph White, Jr., Lisa Carrothers and Steven White (Casey); five step-grandchildren, William Badgley, Jr., Jennifer Best (Jermie), Emily White, Trevor White and Hunter White; three step-great grandchildren, Jaden Best, Jorgia Best and Jordan Best; two sisters, Delores Philbeck (Cam) and Janice Burger (Terry); brother, David Harrell (Thelma); and sister-in-law Deborah Lamb (Lonnie).
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
