Jeanne Hansen Eggleston, 77, of Creston, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Powers Funeral Home junction of Highway 34 and 35 in Creston. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery near Afton.
Open visitation will from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.
Jeanne Ann (Erskine) Hansen Eggleston, daughter of Harold Lester Erskine and Elizabeth Della (Miller) Erskine Osborne, was born on Sept. 22, 1935 in Creston, Ia. She was educated in Creston schools. Early on, she worked at the Greater Community Hospital and the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center. On Nov. 21, 1953, Jeanne married Oscar Hansen, Jr. in Creston. They settled in Creston where they raised their four children. Jeanne was a homemaker and also worked at Bunn-O-Matic for 24 years, retiring in 1999. She went on to work at the Historical Complex for three years.
On Nov. 26, 2005, Jeanne married C. James Eggleston in Creston. They settled on an acreage west of Marshalltown. They moved back to Creston in March, 2012. Jeanne was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church northeast of Creston and had been active with the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Creston. She volunteered at the Creston Historical Complex and earlier as a Girl Scout Leader. She was also a member of the Genealogical Society, the Lincoln Neighbors Club and the Red Hat Group. She loved quilting, needlework and reading.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Eggleston of Creston; a daughter, Jean Marie (husband Kevin) Kelley of Afton; three sons, Ed (wife Carol) Hansen of Indianola; Phil Hansen and Jason (wife Amanda) Hansen, both of Creston;
two step-sons, Roger (wife Lori) Eggleston of Bluffs City, Tenn. and Rodney (wife Teresa) Eggleston of Sedgwick, Kan.; one step-son-in-law, Steve Menuey of Marshalltown;
eight grandchildren, Virginia Kelley (Nick Sprague), Branigan (wife Tiffany) Kelley, Aaron Hansen, Kara Hansen, Maddox Hansen, Haley (husband Jason) Schlapia, Brandy Stephens Sick (husband Wade) and Heidi Lee;
ten step-grandchildren, Miranda (husband Matt) Mingle, Jacob Eggleston, Chelsea (husband Matt) Miller, Travis (wife Liz) Menuey, Joshua (wife Stephanie) Menuey, Nathan Menuey, Megan Menuey, Lucus (wife Amanda) Eggleston, Alex and Jason Eggleston;
eight great-grandchildren, Pheolan, Braden and Aedus Kelley, Shannon Schlapia, Jaiden, Jarryn and Eastyn Stephens Sick, and Adianna Lee;
nine step-great-grandchildren, Xander, Christopher, David, Lily, Bristol, Daytona, Lukah, Renley and Aryah;
two sisters, Deanna (husband Larry) Moreland of Creston and Cindy (Bill) Wolff of Omaha; one brother, Chuck (wife Peggy) Erskine; three sisters-in-law, Jean Erskine, Jan Osborne, both of Creston, Loreen Miller of Creston; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Aidan Kelley, her step-daughter Robin Menuey, her daughter-in-law Colleen Smith, three brothers, Gerald and Jim Erskine and Tom Osborne.
