Jianmin “Jenny” Dong
COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Jianmin “Jenny” Dong, 54, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, 4219 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC.
Jenny passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 from stage IV lung cancer. Born April 11, 1957 in Changchun, China; she was the daughter of Mr. Huichang Dong and the late Mrs. Yunqing Su. Jenny and her husband Wei Zhao, met as teenagers and have been married for close to 30 years. She was a loving wife and a proud mother. She was also a caring friend for anyone who knew her. During the day, she worked as an accountant for Blue Cross Blue shield, but she was so much more than that. Her energy was contagious and her hobbies numerous. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and snow skiing and always looked forward to the yearly family Christmas ski trip. Jenny was also passionate about dancing, especially ballroom dancing. A talented dancer herself, she enjoyed teaching dance classes for others. Additionally, she was always known as the planner as evidenced by her other accomplishments. She designed and decorated their current home in Wildewood and was a founding member of the Chinese Association of Columbia who helped host many of their events. Over the past 8 months she fought courageously against her disease and was an inspiration to her family and everyone else who knew her. She is and always will be missed as she truly was a special person.
Surviving is her husband, Wei Zhao; son, Dr. Zheng “Frank” Zhao of Dallas, TX; parents, Huichang Dong and step-mother Peizhen Li of Shanghai, China; brothers, Jianhong Dong of Los Angeles, CA; Xiaofeng Lin of Shanghai, China; and sister, Xiaolan Lin of Shanghai, China. She is predeceased by her mother Yunqing Su.
