John L. Hitz, age 83, of Menomonie, passed away unexpectedly, Friday December 28, 2012 at his home.

John was born March 20, 1929 in Red Cedar Township, the son of Gustav A. and Hazel V. (Miller) Hitz. He lived in the Menomonie area all his life attending Menomonie High School. John was, as he put it, "a milkman, peddling milk to his customers." Maple Hill Farms Dairy was a family business embraced by numerous generations: his father, himself, and his son shared love of the land and animals. His milk route brought him and his family many friends and provided years of service to our community.

John was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran in Menomonie having been baptized, confirmed and married Lois Wolfgram on December 4, 1947 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. He looked forward to his Wednesday Breakfast Club with friends. John was an avid Green Bay Packers and Menomonie Football Fan. John's faith and family was a source of pride and a topic of conversation whenever you met him. He loved each one of them with his whole heart.

He is survived by three daughters, Peggy (Brad) Baskin, Patty (Bruce) Winberg and Debbie Hitz; one son, Jim (Mary Ann) Hitz; five grandchildren, John Winberg, Amy (Paul) Canfield, Alana Baskin, Melissa Hitz and Josh Hitz; three great grandchildren, Jadyn and Chloe Bogenholm and Tianna Canfield; one sister, Frances Hardy; many other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois (1995); one grandson, Matthew Baskin; special aunt Myrtle Hitz; and brother-in-law, Francis "Fritz" Hardy.

Services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Whelan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
