John Purviance, Jr., 92, of Macon, IL passed away on Thursday (Nov. 29, 2012) at Imboden Creek Living Center.
A service to celebrate John's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 8, 2012) at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Macon. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Moweaqua, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to Snuggies for the Soul or Imboden Creek Living Center.
Mr. Purviance was born on February 10, 1920, in Illiopolis, IL, the son of John Melvin and Iona Mae (Gambrill) Purviance. John married Dorothy Eloise Shewmaker on September 7, 1940. They were married for 63 years. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2004. John operated a gas station in Moweaqua in the early 1940's. He farmed East of Macon for 60 years until his retirement when he was 83 years old. He was affiliated with Salem Baptist Church in Decatur, IL.
He is survived by his sons: John Eugene Purviance of Tennessee, Jerry Purviance and his wife Pat of Kansas City, MO; daughter: Sharon (Hayes) Jones and her husband Paul of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Stephen Hayes and his wife Libby of Cerro Gordo, IL, Matthew Hayes and his wife Laura of Oregon, WI, David Hayes and his wife Meaghan of Pewaukee, WI, Jessica Purviance of Hutchinson , KS, Quinton Purviance and his wife Sarah of Kansas City, MO, John Mark Purviance of Indiana, Susan McLain and her husband Mike of Tennessee, Tami Purviance of North Carolina, Teri Purviance and Daniel Purviance both of Tennessee; 16 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sister: Dorothy Warnick of Decatur, IL; several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Eloise, granddaughter: Peggy Purviance, sister: Vera Ervin, brothers: Dwight Purviance and Glynn Purviance.
