Marie K. Horlitz, a resident of The Beatitudes in Phoenix, Arizona died Wednesday, January 23. Marie was born on April 23, 1919 in North Tonawanda, New York, the daughter of the late Adeline and Alexander Wehner. She was the oldest of six siblings and is survived by her youngest sister, Hildegard. Marie was married to Carl F. Horlitz on September 29, 1942. When he returned from his service in World War II, they made their home together in Yonkers, New York, where they raised two children. Marie lost her beloved husband in 1971. Marie was very active in Christ the King Church and was honored for her many years of volunteer work at St. John's Hospital. She moved to Arizona in 2004 to be near her daughter, Barbara, and her family. Marie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Beth Horlitz of Windsor, CT, her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Hoffnagle of Phoenix, AZ, her grandchildren, Carl John Horlitz and his wife, Kathy, of Colchester, CT, Susan Hoffnagle of Los Angeles, CA, Susan Barr and her husband, Benjamin, of Marblehead, MA, Michael Hoffnagle and his wife, Bei-Min, of Tempe, AZ and Daniel Horlitz and his wife, Jennifer, of Granby, MA. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Carl Michael, Julia, Eva, Oliver, Violet and Fiona. Marie was a skilled needlewoman. She made quilts with her grandmother when she was a young girl. She made clothes for herself and her children and grandchildren. Her handmade clowns were much requested for church and community fairs. The grandchildren enjoyed the sweaters their grandmother knit for them as well as the clowns their children now treasure. She loved playing cards and games with her family. The grandchildren remember many a game of Triominos played with their grandma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday January 28th at 11:00 AM at Christ the King RC Church; 740 North Broadway; Yonkers, New York followed by burial at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.
