Perry Jane Tyner Tate went home to be with Our Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. She was only 23 years old but had accomplished much more than many do in a lifetime and she was prepared to see her Jesus. Perry's life was a mission, a mission to help others and change lives. She faced many health challenges, but from an early age, she faced them head on! Diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at only 17 months of age and later with Fibromyalgia, nothing physical was ever easy for Perry but she faced every obstacle with a smile and fierce determination.
That drive to always do her best caused her to excel at almost everything she did. Her family always joked that if Perry couldn't do something well….she just didn't do it! In school she was an honor student, excelling in the classroom. She was an outstanding swimmer, earning a letter in swimming from Clinton High School. At church she was a leader, a soloist in the choir, a percussionist in the orchestra, an example for Christ in everything she did. At work, she worked hard! One of her favorite things was competing in Speech and Debate. Debating at Clinton High School as a Sophomore and Junior, and then as a Senior at St Andrews Episcopal School, Perry earned the highest distinction available thru the National Forensic League. She followed that up with a scholarship to the University of Alabama as a part of their National Champion Forensic team. As a freshman she earned an individual National Championship in Persuasive Speaking.
One of her greatest passions was working with children on mission trips and at school. That love became a vocation, working as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Clinton YMCA, and after college returning as Childcare Director and Aquatics Director at that same Clinton YMCA where she continued to love "her" children. A graduate of the University of Alabama, she had a love of ALL things Alabama with a wardrobe of Crimson and Hound's-tooth that would rival anyone's.
Perry's husband, shared that love of children, music, and being together with his bride. Traveling, cooking, shopping…it didn't matter as long as they were together. Perry and her husband also loved their time teaching children's Sunday School and leading music during Children's Worship at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton.
Next to Jesus, Family was most important to her. Perry will be greatly missed by her loving husband of just over 3 years, Garon Tate of Clinton. Her parents, William and Joy Tyner and one sister, Molly Tyner, all of Clinton. Her Maternal Grandparents, Gene and Robbie Triggs of Clinton and Paternal Grandparents Dr. Fred and Jane Tyner of Starkville. Her In-Laws, Meredith and Sue Tate of Chattanooga, TN.
Uncles and Aunts; Austin and Dr. Betsy Triggs of Nashville, TN and Charlie and Angie Tyner of Collierville, TN. Cousins include; Elizabeth Triggs and Andrew Triggs of Nashville, TN , John Luke Tyner, Ryan Tyner, and Logan Tyner all of Collierville, TN. There are also numerous Great Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews and a host of friends.
Donations in Perry's honor can be made to two of her favorite organizations; The Childcare Program at the Clinton YMCA and the Children's Ministry at Morrison Heights Baptist Church.
As was her custom, she began and in this case ended many conversations with "ROLL TIDE"
