Robert Otto "Bob" Schmutz, age 86, of Menomonie, WI passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Dunn County Health Care Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born March 9, 1926 on the home farm, in the Town of Eau Galle, Dunn Co., WI to Otto and Velma (Hubbard) Schmutz. He was delivered by midwife, Elsie Baskin Taylor. Dr. Scott from eleven miles away in Durand arrived by horse and cutter after the delivery.

Bob attended Hay Creek grade school and Durand High School. Following high school he worked on the dairy farm at home until 1951.

On June 15, 1949, Bob married Alma Langland at Louisville Church, which was the last wedding performed in that church. They lived in the Town of Eau Galle until 1954 when they moved to Menomonie. In 1959 they moved to a small farm in the Town of Menomonie.

Bob worked as an excavator for Donaldson Engineering from 1952 until 1967. He then operated the Kerr McGee service station in Menomonie from 1967 to 1985. After that he worked at the Exit 45 station and drove for White Knight Limo for several years. He also drove the D.E.T. bus for six years and took care of his wife Alma the last five years of her life.

Bob was a former member of the Antique Auto Club and was the original and only owner of a 1974 Buick LaSabre convertible. He was also a former Black Jack tournament player for over ten years. His claim to fame was that he has been to every Minnesota State Fair since 1948. Mostly Bob enjoyed meeting and visiting with people and was a dedicated visitor at the Dunn County Health Care Center for many years.

Bob is survived by his three sons, Kenneth Schmutz, Raymond Schmutz (Audrey), Michael (Violet Kelly) Schmutz; grandchildren, Tracie Schmutz (Tom Stoeklen, Holly Schmutz, Peggy (Matt) Wilk, Sally Link, Brittany (Andrew) Shultz and Patricia (Pierre) Waller, Richard (Valerie) Kelly; great-grandchildren, Wayne Schmutz, Cody Stoeklen, Megan and Mattie Wilk, Annabel, Brooklyn, Tyler, Jordan and Connor Shultz, Devin, Alexis and Shawn Kelly; a sister, Margaret (Rolland) McMahon; a sister-in-law, Joan Branch; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alma, and an infant brother.

No services are planned. There will be visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie.
