Mrs. Ruth Muriel Steensma, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, November 19, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney J. Steensma. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, David (Barbara) Steensma, John (Carolyn) Steensma, William (Lucinda) Steensma, and Linda (Juan) Salazar; nine grandchildren, Aaron (Lesley) Steensma, Nathan (Julie) Steensma, Elizabeth Steensma, Thomas (Natalie) Steensma, Sara (Daniel) DeVaun, Kelly (Adam) James, Rebekah (William)Baux, Robert Salazar, Jason (Amber) Salazar, and great grandchildren, Caleb and Caitlyn Steensma, Kendrick and Allison Steensma, Jeremiah and Isaac DeVaun, and Jalen, Vincent and Ariana Salazar, and Isaac and Addison Marsman. Ruth is also survived by her brothers, Norman Brown and Russell (Nancy) Brown; brothers-in-law, Leonard (Bertha) Steensma and Peter Steensma; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a loving and supportive group of friends and neighbors.

Ruth was born to Russell and Katherine (Van Malsen) Brown in Grand Rapids. She graduated from Union High School. For over 55 years, Ruth attended Burton Heights Christian Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school. More recently, Ruth attended Twelfth Avenue Christian Reformed Church. Her family wishes to thank the caregivers at Trillium Woods, Faith Hospice for their kind and loving care.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 AM, at the Cook Memorial Chapel (east building), 4235 Prairie SW, Grandville. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet her family Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the Cook Funeral Home (west building) and Wednesday from 10-11 AM prior to her service.
