Sondra Rosalie Spoerre, age 78, of 15836 Balltown Road, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at 12:27 a.m. at home surrounded by her loving family following her three year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 5131 Sherrill Road, with Rev. Raymond A. Burkle presiding. To celebrate Sondra's life friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 5131 Sherrill Road and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Monday at the church. Dinner will follow the funeral service in the Parish Center, and burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, 8298 Jecklin Lane, at 2:00 p.m. Behr Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sondra was born on June 19, 1934, in Farley, Iowa, daughter of Raymond and Stella (Benton) Baker.
Sondra lived in Farley, Iowa until she graduated from high school. She married the love of her life, Robert Spoerre on February 13, 1956, at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque. Sondra was a graduate of Finley Nursing School and was employed at The Finley Hospital and Xavier Hospital until she took time out from her career to raise her family. After the children were grown, she returned to nursing at Enoble Manor. Sondra was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church and the Rosary Society. Her joy in life came through her family. She enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing as a way to provide for her family, and to show them what family life was really all about. She was always making something for somebody. Sondra also enjoyed traveling; she and Robert visited 40 states and traveled to 15 countries.

Sondra was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Stella (Benton) Baker of Farley, IA, and her brothers, Ronayne (Red) Baker of Rock Island, IL and Gerald Baker of Fort Worth, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials and contributions be sent to the Sondra Spoerre Memorial Fund.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the exceptional caregivers of Hospice of Dubuque, whose guidance and compassion helped us to understand her journey. And what can we say to this loving community - so, so many thanks go out to family and friends whose generous visits, thoughts and prayers helped her through this difficult time.
