Suzanne Patrice Peace of Portland, Oregon
March 2, 1950 - January 27, 2013
Sue loved her family and friends and was beloved by all who knew her. Sue was born in San Francisco, CA to Jim and Jan Old. She had one older sister, Michelle and younger brother, Tim. Sue and her family moved around between California and Washington due to Jim's job as a tobacco salesman for White Owl but eventually settled in Beaverton, OR where Sue would attend St. Mary's of the Valley Catholic School. After high school Sue went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. As such, she worked in a variety of settings including nursing homes and Dornbecher's Children's Hospital. Through one of her elderly patients she met and eventually married her first husband, Fred Peace with whom she had one son, Rob. Fred and Sue lived in San Diego, CA for a number of years but after their divorce Sue and Rob moved back to Oregon to be closer to family. Sue started work as an LPN with Kaiser Permanente in 1982. She spent the majority of her career working in the Intermal Medicine clinic at Mt Scott and eventually retired from Kaiser in 2010. Sue moved in with and cared for her dying mother in 1994 and many years later invited her niece Cassidy's father, Ken, into her home as he also died of Cancer.
Sue endured many challenges in her life including living through Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1984 and 2 recurrences in the 90's. She survived open-heart surgery and lived with chronic disease. Through it all, she never gave up hope. She was a fighter, her spirit full of passion, love and dreams of the future.
Sue will be remembered for her sense of humor, love of music and dance, love of dogs, generosity, her open door, the snort in her laugh, her bright beautiful smile and for staying strong in the face of more adversity than such a woman should ever deserve.
Sue passed at 5:24am on January 27th, 2013 with her son at her side. She is survived by her son, Rob and two grandsons, Calen (5y/o) and Cedar (6m/o), her older sister, Michele, younger brother, Tim, nieces, nephews cousins and Aunt Pat.
