Sylvia Melo Rapose, our beloved Mummy and Avo was called to her reward on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Mummy has gone to the room prepared for her in her Father's house by her precious Savior Jesus.
Born in Moira, Goa, to Raphael Melo and Francisquinha Rocha Melo, she was the baby sister to Ana Figueiredo and brothers Caetano Melo and the late Epiphanio Melo. At the age of 14 she bravely left home for college and after graduation worked as a teacher in several convents in Northern India and Nepal. Mummy often regaled us with happy experiences she enjoyed during this phase of her life. On January 19, 1964 she married Mousinho Rapose. They were blessed with William, Alwyn and Lyn, whom Mummy brought up single handedly after Mousinho passed away in 1977. Through all of her trials Mummy never wavered in her deep trust in her precious Lord and Savior Jesus. Mummy was committed to her Catholic faith and used every opportunity to boldly testify to one and all about Jesus' love and faithfulness. She succeeded in passing on her deep faith to her children and their families through her own life example and her daily prayers for us on her knees.
In 1992 Mummy migrated to America to help her children find better opportunities. In America she made many friends in Malden, Framingham and Worcester, MA, San Leandro, CA, Galveston, Texas City and Round Rock, TX - always willing to pack up and move to be with, and help and support her children. She successfully fought against her many health issues with a smile. Even through her suffering - as throughout her life - she was always reaching out to help someone else.
Mummy is now in Heaven in the company of our heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit along with Daddy, and her parents whom she loved so much. While we will miss her terribly, and feel bad for all the suffering she went through, we hold on to the truth that for Mummy life has just begun.
"Mummy we love you and thank you for all you have done for us - giving us life - physical and spiritual - that is your greatest legacy. Please pray for us."
William and Elsa, Alwyn and Marjorie, Lyn and Keith, Winona, Evicka, Reuben and Karsten.
A viewing will be held at 3:00 pm, prior to the Funeral Mass at St. William Catholic Church, in the Sacred Heart Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. William Catholic Church.
