Tavita (Tavie) D. Lopez, 75, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Baytown on October 5, 1937, to Cayetano De Hoyos and Guadalupe Aleman De Hoyos. Tavita was a 1956 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and a 1958 graduate of Lee College. She worked in administration for Bayer for thirty years and retired in 2001.

Tavita enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to travel and spend weekends in Austin attending Longhorn football games. She valued opportunities to give back to her community and did so by serving as a Director on the boards of GCCISD Education Foundation, Sterling Municipal Library, and Communities in Schools. Tavita was also a former member of The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Baytown and the Allocations Committee of the United Way of Baytown Area. She was an alumna of the Baytown Citizen's Police Academy, a volunteer with the Blue Santa program, a founding member of the Concerned Citizens For Education advocacy group and active in the Bayer Baytown Retirees organization.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Lopez; siblings, Estela Morales, Amelia De Hoyos, Aurelia De Hoyos, Pedro De Hoyos, Andrea De Hoyos and Ruby Tanguma; Mrs. Lopez is survived by her sons, Randy Lopez and Ryan Lopez; daughter, Rhonda Lopez; brothers, Ruben De Hoyos and wife, Alice and Andrew De Hoyos; sister, Argentina Todhunter; and numerous other loving friends and family members.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, with a rosary at 7 p.m., in the Chapel of Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 800 W. Baker Road, Baytown, with Reverend Terence P. Brinkman, S.T.D. as celebrant. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Honoring the family as pallbearers are Louie Araujo, Dwayne De Hoyos, Matthew De Hoyos, Michael De Hoyos, Mario Delgado, Albert Magdaleno and Jerald Morales.
